TVPlayer is a live TV streaming service for users to watch free-to-air channels through their desktop, smartphones and tablets. The live TV service allows television licence holders in the UK to stream live channels, including BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5, Heart TV, Capital TV and the The Box (UK and Ireland) portfolio.

TVPlayer was launched as an iOS, Android and Amazon app in December 2013. TVPlayer launched its tablet version January 2014. According to the company, TVPlayer received 250,000 downloads within 28 days of launching. [1]

Features

TVPlayer can be watched online in a browser and can be downloaded for free from the App Store. The apps allow viewers the option to change channels from within the player. The iOS app also features a seven-day electronic programme guide and the ability to set reminders.

Channels are grouped into five categories – Entertainment, News, Music, Kids and a Desi pack. TVPlayer has launched the UK's first Desi TV pack including channels such as Colors and Rishtey.

TVPlayer is privately owned by SimpleStream Ltd, a leading provider of live streaming and catch-up TV services to broadcast and media companies.

Adam Smith founder and CEO of Simplestream and the TVPlayer used to be the co-founder of TVCatchup[2]

Ways to watch the service

Users can access TVPlayer via desktop browsers as well as smartphone and tablet apps. iOS, Android and Amazon apps were released in December 2013 in App Store, Google Play and the Amazon Appstore. The iOS app is also compatible with Airplay, meaning that the channels can be streamed to TVs via Apple TV.

The TVPlayer apps are usable via 3G, 4G and on Wi-Fi, with some channels only available on Wi-Fi due to rights or legal restrictions. TVPlayer is a UK only service and can only be watched in Great Britain, Northern Ireland, The Channel Islands and The Isle of Man.
