TR-196 (Technical Report 196) is a Broadband Forum technical specification. The purpose of this Technical Report is to specify the Data Model for the Femto Access Point (FAP) for remote management purposes using the TR-069 CWMP.

As a bidirectional SOAP/HTTP-based protocol, it provides the communication between customer-premises equipment (CPE) and Auto Configuration Servers (ACS). TR-069 is more generic and addresses various devices such as modems, routers, gateways, set-top box, and VoIP-phones. TR-196 primary objective is to provide data model very specific to Femto Access Point(FAP)
