St.Simon (Szymon) of Lipnica (c. 1437 – 18 July 1482) was born to a pious family in Lipnica Murowana, in the south of Poland. He moved to Kraków, to attend the famous Jagiellonian Academy, in 1454. After hearing a sermon by Saint John Capistran, he joined the Franciscans. He was known as a powerful preacher. He died tending the sick during a plague epidemic. He was beatified by Pope Innocent XI in 24 February 1685 and canonized by Pope Benedict XVI in 3 June 2007
