Sylvain E. Gallant

Sylvain E. Gallant (October 10, 1839 – February 11, 1918) was a merchant and political figure in Prince Edward Island. He represented 3rd Prince in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1895 to 1897 as a Liberal member.

He was born in Cascumpec, Prince Edward Island, the son of Mélème Gallant and Domithilde Gaudet. He was educated in Egmont Bay and St. Eleanors and went on to attend the Normal School in Charlottetown, receiving his teaching certificate. Gallant taught school for six years in Prince Edward Island and three years in Nova Scotia. In 1867, he became a clerk in the general store of Joseph-Octave Arsenault in Abram Village. He bought the business in 1898. Gallant was also a justice of the peace and a clerk in the court for Prince County. In 1868, he married Eulalie Arsenault; after her death, he married Rosalie Borque in 1883. He was elected to the provincial assembly in an 1895 by-election held after Joseph-Octave Arsenault was named to the Senate.
