Sydney Blu (born Joanne Judith-Mary Hill; November 22, 1977)[1] is a Canadian DJ, producer, and record label owner. Blu is known for large, live event performances at major venues and dance music festivals around the world and releases on multiple labels, including her own Blu Music. Her singles, "Give It Up For Me" and "Senses and the Mind" broke beatport.com sales records, and launched her label "Blu Music" with her single "Instinct".
History
Blu's career began in her native Canada,[2] where she became a well-known member of the electronic dance music community with shows around the country. She moved to Miami in 2010 to pursue opportunities in the larger, more established EDM community.
Since moving to Miami, Blu has taken a residency at Mansion Miami. She has performed internationally with artists including Deadmau5 at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Recife Brazil, BPM Festival in Mexico, and shows in Spain, Philippines, Tunisia, Pakistan,[3][4] Egypt, and Colombia, in addition to many venues across North America.[5][6]
In 2009, Sydney launched Blu Music Records with the debut record of Instinct. The label featured electro releases (Instinct, Articul8, Big Jerk, Nineteen 59), progressive house releases (Lights Out, Want Somebody, Bad Blood), Techno (Haste), as well as other genres of electronic music. Aside from releases by Blu herself, the label has signed Miami DJ Obi Tawil aka Damaged Goods, and Florida electro star Adrian Villaverde. The label has been one of the most successful labels on beatport charts in its history.
In addition to her record label, Blu's Blu Party brand has hosted its annual event, Miami Music Week, for the past four years. The Blu Party has been known to be one of the most well-respected WMC/MMW parties, with a penchant for debuting A-list & untapped talent. Recent headliners of the Blu Party in past years have included artists such as Thomas Gold, John Dahlback, Funkagenda, Tommy Lee & Dj Aero, David Tort, Alex Kenji, SOFI, Kim Fai, Wally Lopez, Manuel De La Mar and many more.
Blu is now signed to Blackhole Recordings with a forthcoming album and documentary series being published on her life. The series is a biographical documentary series titled "Being Sydney Blu". The show focuses on the work that Sydney goes through in her DJ career, along with what she does in her free time to get away from it all. She will be releasing a new episode every month at a new location based around her show schedule. The first episode debuted in April 2013 by Electro Magazine.
Blu will release her debut album Relentless in 2015.
