Sydenham Institute of Management Studies, Research and Entrepreneurship Education (SIMSREE)is one of the Premiere Management Institute of the country imparting Management Studies under University of Mumbai, named after the then governor of Bombay Lord Sydenham of Combe in 1913.

Brief History

The college's motto is "Labor Omnia Vincit"("Work conquers all") and in Sanskrit, "samudyogo hi vishvajita" {Diligent Efforts Conquer the World}.The college is operated by the government of Maharshtra. SIMSREE’s parent institute, Sydenham College is one of the most renowned Commerce colleges in India. Sydenham College, "the first college of commerce in Asia," was established in October 1913. It was named after the then-governor of Bombay, Lord Sydenham of Combe, who was instrumental in making the undergraduate degree of Bachelor of Commerce possible in Mumbai. This makes Sydenham College the oldest degree-awarding institution in commerce. K. S. Aiyar acted as first honorary principal of the college. It was only in 1941, twenty-eight years after the establishment of Sydenham College, that any other institute started offering courses in the subject. On the college's seventy-fifth anniversary in 1988, the Indian Post Office issued a commemorative stamp. In 1990, TIME rated Sydenham College as the "Best Commerce College this side of the Suez". SIMSREE in continuation with the Sydenham Education tradition was founded in 1983.

Today SIMREE provides business knowledge with flexibility and embarks a journey towards a progressive career, fosters a spirit of co-operation, innovation and vision, and helps develop discerning eyesight to appreciate and respect the unity in diversity and harmonizes the inherent differences, while demolishing the artificial dividers. It is the only Government Management Institute in Maharashtra State offering education with minimum fees and high standard.

Programmes

Full Time Courses

Masters of Management Studies (MMS)

The Institute offers the Masters of Management Studies (MMS) course, a two year full - time post graduate degree course affiliated to the University of Mumbai, since 1983. This course is recognized by AICTE, New Delhi. The number of seats was revised in 2012 from 60 to 120.

Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM)

The Institute offers a two year full - time Post Graduate Diploma in Business Management (PGDBM). This is the only fully autonomous management programme offered by the Government of Maharashtra and run exclusively by and at SIMSREE. The institute kicked off with Diploma in Business Management, a one year course in 1976. This course was converted into a two year post graduate program in 1992 and the curriculum was accordingly updated. The student intake in this course is 60 as of 2012.

Part Time Courses

Master’s in Financial Management (MFM)

SIMSREE offers a Three Year Part Time Master’s Degree in Financial Management (MFM). The programme covers all the related areas of finance and accounting with emphasis on managerial application. Candidates having experience in finance or related areas of finance such as management services, project planning and control, corporate planning, management audit, internal audit, marketing analysis and economic analysis will find this programme useful. The intake of this course is 30 as of 2012.

Master’s in Marketing Management (MMM)

The program covers all the related areas of marketing including public sector marketing. It seeks to develop and integrate the top management perspective which is necessary for a marketing executive to move into top level general management positions. Candidates seeking admission to this programme must have a practical experience in any of the following related areas: Marketing Planning, Sales Management, Market Research, Distribution, Public Relations, Advertising, Export Marketing and Applied Economics. The intake for this course is 30 as of 2012.

The institute enables student development not just through academics but through over all personality development by involving students in various committees and forums and constantly encouraging them to come up with their own new initiatives. This is the only institute that is completely student driven. Following are the committees and forums started by the students and encouraged by the expert faculty.
