Syamsul Yusof (born 21 May 1984) is a Malaysian director and actor who often emerge through action-oriented films in Malaysia. He set a record as the youngest director to win the Malaysian Film Festival when he did so at the age of 26. Syamsul is the son of a famous director, Yusof Haslam, who was nicknamed the Six Million Dollar Man.

Biography

Early career

Syamsul grew up in Kuala Lumpur. He is the son of famous Malaysian Director; Dato 'Yusof Haslam.

Directing Field

Although he was born from a family of giant film company in Malaysia, he will still receive a heavy challenge, which came from his own father. His father wanted to test his ability to give his instructions drama directing assignment, Special Forces, for a few episodes. After successfully facing these challenges, his desire to sit in a chair film director finally achieved. But, it's another challenge. Script which he created together with his cousin, Rizal Ashref, rejected by his father and asked to reassess the script. After the revision, the first film project finally approved a budget worth RM 1. 35 million as the cost and completion date selapam 35 days. Quite burdensome when he just started directing had to face situations that put pressure on him. At the time of making the film he had an argument with his father a question that had promoted the film cost up to RM 2 million He was crying and I feel tired to directing films. But, the son of the Six Million Dollar Man this does not tire after the first film, Evolusi KL Drift succeeded in Now, he is still actively directing several films and skip the box office success of his father carved by himself.

Evolusi KL Drift 2 and Best Director

After directing Evolusi KL Drift; he continued with the controversial direct action oriented film, Charmed: Do not Choose Black Road. The film received public attention when the title of this film unsuitable for public viewing. But he had another reason.[1] He still retains the trademark stroke-film directing action film. The film is seen to be successful. Next, he continued to direct drift series Evolusi KL Drift 2. This time, the narration is done looks pretty neat and very good. The film received a commendable collection. With the film, brilliant step when beginning bagged Best Director at the Malaysian Film Festival 23rd.[2] His success has exceeded harp from what his father never achieved.

2011: The Rise and Success

He wanted to punctuate a director with leading portfolio variety of film genres. His first attempt was successful. In 2011 his film shows the rise of touch when his first horror film, Absurdity: Devil Agreement looked cinema and create a new record when reaching collection of Rs 8 million. This was a surprise for perfilem industry in Malaysia. Critics give praise to his first attempt in directing the horror film.[3]

Terrorism film direction he did not stop there. He terrorise fight back with action film, KL Gangster. The film opened the eyes of all parties will often insult the Malay film. He was very careful in the production of this film and specially made for viewing all.[4] The success of this film is so shocking when getting quotes almost Rs 12 million, twice what his father achieved through Sembilu II. The film is successful competitor to foreign films screened in Malaysia. He also expressed difficulties to compile a list of actors he wanted for the film.

He also won success in Malaysian Film Festival-24 after winning the award Best Pengrah for two years in a row through the film KL Gangster.

2013–present

He continued to work directing several films such as Aku Bukan Tomboy, Charmed 2: The Road Back, KL Gangster 2 and so on.
