Susanna Lo

Susanna Lo is an American filmmaker. Lo was first noticed for her stylistic 35mm feature film, Black & White: A Love Story, starring Jason Adams, which she wrote, directed and produced at the age of twenty-six. The film was accepted into the American Independents at The Berlin Film Festival and went on to win a best directing and best feature film award in Montreal. At the 1996 Berlinale, Joe Leydon of Variety describes Lo as an intelligent writer who scrupulously avoids predictable melodrama.

Life and career

Lo was born in Hong Kong on February 20, 1966 and raised by a single father, Christopher P.W. Lo, and an aunt, Such Shih "Winnie" Lo, in Honolulu, Hawaii. Lo was raised as a Catholic by her father and a Buddhist by her aunt. She attended Waikiki Elementary School and Star of the Sea High School. Lo made films with a Super 8 camera since she was seven years old and went on to study film production at Loyola Marymount University. As a sophomore, Lo competed with graduated students and won a best film award with her student short, Trapped.[1]

2011 to 2014

She published a novel in 2011, Alma of My Heart, which hit #1 in Love and Romance for Amazon Kindle Books. Her next novel, Good Vibrations, will be released in 2014.

Susanna Lo is currently shooting the film Manson Girls starring Eric Balfour, Tania Raymonde, Estella Warren, Laura Harring, and Ron Jeremy. In 2014, she will begin production on Rabid, a film that will reunite her with legendary Roger Corman actress, Maria Ford. Susanna and Maria previous worked together on the television series, E.D.E.N.

Charities & Organizations

Susanna Lo is one of the founders of the non-profit organization, The Animal Avengers, which helps find homes for abandoned and stray animals. She is also a member of PEN, and has taught underprivileged youth screenwriting classes through PEN in the Classroom. She is currently participating with FYI, Films by Youth Inside, an organization that mentors incarcerated youths by helping them create their own short films.
