The Microsoft Surface Pro was the first generation in the line of Surface-series Windows 8 tablets produced by Microsoft. It is a part of the Surface Family and it features full Windows 8.x operating system.
There are currently three generations of Surface Pro: Surface Pro (first generation), Surface Pro 2, and Surface Pro 3. Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 are no longer manufactured since Surface Pro 3 release on June 20, 2014. They are, however, still being sold and remain popular in secondary\used markets.
The biggest advantage of Surface Pros is the ability to run nearly all Windows applications, making it a contender for a Windows laptop replacement. All of the Surface Pro tablets also come with a stylus for creating art and taking hand-written notes. Surface Pro and Surface Pro 2 were based on Wacom digitizer technology, while the Surface Pro 3 sports an N-trig digitizer. The newest Surface Pro 3 provides the best “pen and paper” experience of all tablets on the market today.[9]
The Surface Pro was launched on February 9, 2013. Surface Pro has a full-HD display and a 10.6 inch (27 cm) diagonal screen (9.3 by 5.2 inches, for a 16:9 aspect ratio). It has a single position kickstand and is much thicker than the original Surface.
In October 2013, its successor, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2, was released. While maintaining a design similar to its original design, the Surface Pro has improved hardware specifications than its predecessor (such as a fourth-generation (Haswell) Intel Core i5 processor and an increased number of storage options), and improved versions of its kickstand and cover accessories (such as a new "Power Cover" with an auxiliary battery).[10]
Surface Pro 3 followed on June 20, 2014. It features a larger screen size --- 12 inches (30 cm) diagonal (9.8 by 6.6 inches, for a 3:2 aspect ratio) --- a fully adjustable kickstand, and a new Surface Pen.[11]
