Sunguvarchatram is a town in Kancheepuram District, Tamil Nadu. It is located near Sriperumbudur on the Chennai - Bangalore - Mumbai National Highway 4.

The name SUNGUVARCHATRAM is derived from Sungu ("Toll") and Chatram ("Guest house"). In ancient days merchants from Kanchipuram [then Pallava kingdom capital] used to go to Chennai pattinam for trade purpose crossing this place, Sunguvarchatram. During their journey they used to stay in the guest houses and they also paid tax for their trading to the authorized persons, so it is Sunguchatram, and day-by-day it was translated into Sunguvarchatram.

Though it is a small town, it doesn't have any status of town panchayat. Sunguvarchatram is actually divided by three town panchayat villages nearer to it namely Thirumangalam madura, Santhavellore and Molasur. Sunguvarchatram exactly is a Bazaar street on the Chennai - Bangalore National Highway 4.on 80 years old BAZAAR SHOPS AND MHADMA GANDHI PARK

Electronics City is an electronics industrial park spread over acres in Sunguvarchatram or SVC, just outside chennai, India. It houses more than a 50 multinational industries, including IT industry leaders such as Motorola etc.
