Sung-Won Yang is a South Korean cellist who performs worldwide as a soloist and as a chamber musician. He studied with Philippe Muller and Janos Starker.[1] He has performed in Paris, Amsterdam, London, Rome, Frankfurt, Madrid, Prague, Helsinki, New York, Washington D.C, Boston, Seattle, Tel Aviv, Shanghai, Tokyo, Osaka, Beijing and Sydney among other cities.[2]

His all-Kodály debut album was chosen as Editor’s Choice of the month by Gramophone Magazine (2003) and a Critic’s Choice of the year by Gramophone (2003). He has also recorded works by Rachmaninoff, Chopin, Bach and Beethoven.[3]

He is a frequent performer of contemporary music.

He has served as a juror at the Banff International Chamber Music Competition in Canada, the André Navarra International Cello Competition in France, and the Cassado International Cello Competition in Japan.[3]

He is a Professor of Cello at Yonsei University School of Music in Seoul, Artistic Director of LG Chamber Music School, and a visiting Professor in Residence (2011–2012) at the Royal Academy of Music in London.[3]
