History

Sum valley as a whole was a river until Haroon Khan Badshah with the help of his versatile powers turned the face of the Sirran River into two. This made it easier for the local people to settle down at the base of Sum village. Now there are two rivers passing by Sum. One passes from the front side of Sum which touches the road moving forward for Daddar village and the other one goes from the back side touching Elai-Mang. The ruling class here has always been Khans known as "The Khans of Sum". They are Swati Khan Khels[1]

It goes back to the Indian National Congress and PML where Khan Mohammad Abbas Khan served a lot for the Muslims of the Subcontinent. For the betterment of Muslims, he left the Congress and joined hands with Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Floods

A disaster took place in Sum during the floods of September 1992 and July 2001. The entire village was under flood and the schools and the houses of the local population floated away. Only the thing standing was the Sum Mansion of the Khans. This is because it was built while looking forward the village’s history. This Mansion has an underground base of eighteen feet depth and the thickness of the underground walls is ten feet. The main old bridge was destroyed in the first flood. Shahzada Muhammad Gushtasip Khan made a new bridge for the village which was named after the late son of Haroon Khan Badshah.

Many developments have taken place in Sum. Electricity, bridges, water supplying system, roads and school for children are a few examples. Still it needs to improve more and wants an open eye from the ruling class for further developments to take place.
