Sui He (何穗, born 23 September 1989) is a Chinese fashion model notable for being the first Asian face of Shiseido, first Asian model to open a Ralph Lauren runway show and the second model of Chinese descent to walk in the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.[1][3] Sui He also appeared on the cover of W magazine as a relative unknown.[4]

Early life

Sui He was born on September 23, 1989 in Wenzhou, a city in the province of Zhejiang, China. As a young girl, she dreamed of being a business woman and Kate Moss was her fashion icon.[5][6]

Sui He was an avid swimmer; she was a member of her city's swim team for seven years.[5] Sui He was a good student in school, and was the class president in her junior and senior years at Wenzhou No.51 High School.[5]

Career

At the age of 17, while a junior in high school, Sui He entered modeling contest, Chinese Modeling Contest and won without any training. After winning the contest, she signed with China Bentley Culture Development Co. in Beijing. She modeled locally until 2010 due to being busy with school.[5]

As of 2013, Sui He is ranked #13 on the Top 50 Models Women List by models.com.[7] She was on Models.com's 2011 Top Women List as well.[8]

Sui He made her runway debut at the Love, Sex, and Money runway show in the Spring/Summer 2011 runway season. Her breakthrough season was Fall/Winter 2011, where she most notably opened for Ralph Lauren and opened and closed Vivienne Tam in New York, walked for Dolce & Gabbana in Milan and walked exclusively for Shiatzy Chen and Dries van Noten in Paris.[1][9] Due to her success that season, she was named one of New York Magazine's Fall 2011 Top 10 Faces and also was style.com's top ten new comers.[10] Other ready-to-wear show appearances include Chanel, Dior, Helmut Lang, Hermes, Hervé Léger, Jean Paul Gaultier, Missoni, Mugler, Oscar de la Renta, Ralph Lauren, and Y-3.[11] Notable couture shows include Chanel, Dior, and Jean-Paul Gaultier.[11]

Sui He walked in the 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 Victoria's Secret Fashion Shows, becoming the second model of Chinese descent after Liu Wen to walk for Victoria's Secret.[1]

Sui He appeared on the cover of W magazine's art issue in October 2011 as a relative unknown, becoming the first relatively unknown model to appear on a W cover in recent memory.[4] She also appeared on the 6th anniversary cover of Vogue China along with other top Chinese models.[11] Other covers include i-D and V.[11]

In 2012, Sui He was selected to be the first Asian global spokesmodel for Shiseido.[3] The print campaign was photographed by Nick Knight.[1][11]

He's first campaign was Bruno Cucinelli Spring/Summer 2011.[11] Her first major campaign was Ralph Lauren in Fall/Winter 2011.[11] Most recently, Sui He appeared in the Printemps with Dior Holiday 2012 campaign along with Carolyn Murphy which was styled by Carine Roitfeld and photographed by Mario Testino. In addition, she appeared in Karl by Karl Lagerfeld campaigns in Fall/Winter 2012 and Spring 2012.[11] Sui He has also appeared in two H&M campaigns, and an H&M Holiday 2011 television commercial.[11]

She was part of the cast of the 2015 film You Are My Sunshine.[12]

Personal life

Sui He is known within the industry for being kind, polite, patient and friendly. For example, Sui He is very gracious when asked to pose for photographers.[13]

He's closest friends are Shu Pei and Nadja Bender .[14] She has a boyfriend.[14]

He's interests include business, food, reading and traveling.[5][6][14] She also enjoys karaoke and going to the beach.[5][14] Her favorite movie is The Pursuit of Happyness, and her favorite type of music is slow love songs.[6]

When she is finished with modeling, Sui He plans to start a business, most likely a restaurant.[5]

Sui He wass the judge for China's Next Top Model in 2013.
