Sudip Bose is an attending emergency medicine physician,[3] educator, entrepreneur,[4] and combat veteran.[5] He is also Indian American. He served as a physician on the front lines in Iraq for nearly 15 months [6] which is one of the longest combat deployments by a physician since World War II.[7][8]

Dr. Bose treated Saddam Hussein[9] shortly after his capture in December 2003 [10] and used his military, emergency physician, and professorial experience to be an active proponent of veteran and health care issues in the international arena.

Veteran

Dr. Bose, a former Major in the U.S. Army, served one of the longest combat deployments by a physician since World War II. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Dr. Bose cared for thousands of wounded soldiers and Iraqi civilians. He provided front line emergency care during the peak of insurgencies in Baghdad and Najaf, and treated Saddam Hussein shortly after his capture.[11] In addition, Dr. Bose was one of the only front line physicians in the Second Battle of Fallujah[12] during the U.S. seizure of the city. When not on missions, Dr. Bose volunteered his free time by serving at the busiest trauma center in the world at that time, the Ibn Sina Hospital,[13] Baghdad. For his service, he received Presidential recognition and earned several awards including the Bronze Star, The Combat Medical Badge, and The Army Commendation Medal[14] and recognition as a CNN Hero.[15]

Emergency Medicine Physician

Dr. Bose is an attending emergency physician with a breadth of clinical experience, from the busiest urban emergency rooms in the nation to underserved community hospitals.[17] Based on his strong clinical record he earned recognition in “Guide to America’s Top Emergency Medicine Physicians” for the last several years in a row and was selected as one of "America's Health Care Leaders" by the American College of Emergency Physicians[18] and Health Leaders Magazine.[19] Dr. Bose was selected as one of the "Leading Physicians of the World" by the International Association of Healthcare Professionals.[20] Dr. Bose has held various hospital leadership positions during his career and currently serves as Medical Director for the city of Odessa,[21] Texas and its surrounding county.

Educator

Dr. Bose is an associate professor at University of Illinois and has held faculty positions at University of Texas and Texas A&M. As City/County Medical Director, he is directly responsible for training hundreds of pre-hospital personnel. Further, Dr. Bose routinely travels across the country to teach the Emergency Medicine Written Board Examination Review Curriculum he developed. This Curriculum, in addition to the 600+ page textbook he authored, led two medical centers to achieve the #1 score in the nation among 140 residency programs. Dr. Bose also lectures nationally on lessons learned as a battalion surgeon in Iraq, including a keynote lecture with President Barack Obama in 2006.[22] He has appeared on CNN,[23] MSNBC,[24] Untold Stories of the ER,[25] CBS News and local news affiliates. In addition, he serves as medical correspondent for a weekly CBS segment discussing medical and personal health issues. He has been interviewed by The Washington Post and LA Times. He received the National Faculty Teaching Award],[26] the industry’s highest teaching award.[27]
