Sudhir Choudhrie is an Indian-born London resident who has, in the past, played an active role in international commerce,[1] healthcare, and fundraising for the Liberal Democrats. Choudhrie has been Latvia's Honorary Consul General to India.[2] In 2013, Theresa May awarded him the "Asian Business Lifetime Achievement Year Award 2013".[3]

In February 2014, Choudhrie was detained by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) in a bribery investigation into Rolls-Royce Holdings. He was later released on bail,[4] without conditions, and lately, the Sunday Times reported that the bail was completely lifted in July 2014. It also indicated that Choudhrie was unlikely to be a part of the inquiry any further.[5][6][7] The Sunday Times also cited a spokesperson for Sudhir reiterating his denial of any wrongdoing [8] and that he has co-operated fully with the authorities.[9][10][11]

While the SFO investigation related to Indonesia and China,[12] a separate inquiry[13] was initiated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) India to look into the purchase of Rolls-Royce engines for India's BAE Systems Hawk trainers.
