Sudarshan Gautam

Sudarshan Gautam (Nepali: सुदर्शन गौतम; born in Nepal; 1978) is the first armless person to summit Mount Everest without the use of prosthetics. He reached the top of Mount Everest on May 20, 2013.[1]

Gautam was born in Bhauduri, a village in Ramechhap District of Nepal. Soon after his moving with his parents to Kathmandu he had an accident with a live power cable that led to the amputation of both of his arms.[1]

With his personal motto, "Disability is not an inability", he had reached the peaks of other mountains before, including Mount Ramdung at 5,925 metres (19,439 ft) and Mount Yala at 5,732 metres (18,806 ft).[1]

On June 30, 2013, NRN-Canada, the national organization of Nepali Diaspora in Canada honored him as an outstanding Nepali Diaspora member.[2]

Ever since amputation of his both arms around 18 years ago, Gautam has learnt to live a normal life performing everyday tasks on his own, using his feet in place of hands.[3] Gautam is married and has one son.[4]

Sudarshan Gautam has debuted as an actor in a 2014 Nepali movie titled Himmatwali featuring Nepali actress Rekha Thapa opposite to him.[5]
