The Stonewall Jackson House is a 19th-century house located at 8 East Washington Street in Lexington, Virginia. Constructed in 1802, by Cornelius Dorman. Dr. Archibald Graham sold it to Stonewall Jackson on November 4, 1858, for $3000.[3]

Design

The house is a two-story, four bay, brick dwelling with a stone rear ell. It has a side-gable roof and interior end chimneys.[4] It is the only house that General Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson ever owned. He lived in the brick house with his second wife, Mary Anna Morrison. They resided in the home from 1858 to 1861.[4]

In 1907, it housed Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital, until 1954, when it was converted to a museum.[5] The house is owned and operated as a museum by the Stonewall Jackson Foundation. Guided tours are given daily.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.[1] It is located in the Lexington Historic District.
