Stonewall is a town in northern DeSoto Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,668 at the 2000 census. It is part of the ShreveportBossier City Metropolitan Statistical Area.

North DeSoto High School and the Garland Scout Ranch of the Boy Scouts of America are located in Stonewall.

Geography

Stonewall is located at 32°16′2″N 93°49′25″W / 32.26722°N 93.82361°W (32.267345, -93.823589).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.4 square miles (19.3 km²), of which, 7.4 square miles (19.3 km²) of it is land and 0.13% is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 1,668 people, 642 households, and 489 families residing in the town. The population density was 224.3 people per square mile (86.6/km²). There were 710 housing units at an average density of 95.5 per square mile (36.8/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 89.03% White, 6.83% African American, 1.68% Native American, 0.12% Asian, 0.12% Pacific Islander, 1.32% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.28% of the population.

There were 642 households out of which 33.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.8% were married couples living together, 10.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.8% were non-families. 21.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 9.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.03.

In the town the population was spread out with 26.3% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 29.0% from 25 to 44, 27.0% from 45 to 64, and 11.4% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 96.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 93.1 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $39,375, and the median income for a family was $46,620. Males had a median income of $34,205 versus $25,263 for females. The per capita income for the town was $17,434. About 8.5% of families and 10.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 13.0% of those under age 18 and 7.3% of those age 65 or over.
