Steven L. Jacobs
Steven Leonard Jacobs (born January 15, 1947) is a historian, Professor of the University of Alabama (Aaron Aronov Endowed Chair in Judaic Studies). He is specialized in Genocide and Holocaust Studies, Religion, History of Judaism, and Politics in the Middle East.
Books
Steven Leonard Jacobs was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. As a child he would spend hours telling family and friends about his dream to be a giraffe when he grew-up. When his dream was shattered by a grade school science teacher, Steven turned to his second passion in life; tap dancing. He quickly rose to fame as the Maryland State Tap Dancing Champion in his early years as a child before touring with Cirque Du Soleil. He went on to major in English at Penn State University where he won a letter in inter-collegiate wrestling and often used his fancy footwork to get out of difficult holds. He considered a career in professional wrestling, but chose instead to become a high school English teacher before deciding to become a Rabbi.
Steven Leonard Jacobs received his B.A. from Penn State University; and degrees from the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. He has taught at Spring Hill College, Mobile; University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham-Southern College, Samford University, Birmingham; the University of Alabama in Huntsville and Calhoun Community College, Huntsville.[1]
Jacobs is a member of the Board of Advisors of Alabama Holocaust Commission, The Center for American & Jewish Studies, Baylor University, Waco, International Editor of The Papers of Raphael Lemkin, Secretary-Treasurer of the International Association of Genocide Scholars, a member of International Advisory Board of the Centre for Comparative Genocide Studies, Macquarie University, New South Wales and other organizations.
