Stephen T. "Steve" Jurvetson (born March 1, 1967) is an American businessman and venture capitalist. He is currently a partner of Draper Fisher Jurvetson (DFJ).[2][3] He was a venture capitalist investor in Hotmail.[4] He also led the firm's investments in Tradex and Cyras (acquired by Ariba and Ciena, respectively). Current Board seats include NeoPhotonics, SpaceX, Synthetic Genomics, Planet Labs, Nervana Systems, and Tesla Motors.[5] Jurvetson is the world's first Tesla Model S owner.[3][6]

Career

Jurvetson graduated from Dallas' St. Mark's School of Texas in 1985. At Stanford University, Jurvetson finished his degree in electrical engineering in 2.5 years[4] and graduated #1 in his class. He then earned an M.S. in electrical engineering and an M.B.A., also from Stanford. As a consultant with Bain & Company, Jurvetson developed executive marketing, sales, engineering and business strategies for a wide range of companies in the software, networking, and semiconductor industries.[7] He first joined DFJ after his second year of business school, and became a partner after proving his talent on several investments.[8]

Jurvetson was named to Forbes' "Midas List" of Tech's Top Investors in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014.[7][9][10][11]

Deloitte named Jurvetson "Venture Capitalist of the Year" in 2012.[12]

Jurvetson was named to the MIT TR35 in 1999 for "recognize young entrepreneurs who can deliver", including making the first investment in Hotmail.[13]
