Stepaside is a village six miles north of Tenby, Pembrokeshire belonging to the Community of Amroth[1]
Once home to both coal and iron mines, it is now a holiday hamlet with a few houses and caravan parks. The Stepaside Heritage Park is situated on the road between it and Wisemans Bridge. [In order to preserve the beauty and history that Heritage Park is blessed with, the park is being developed to compliment the landscape and historical ruins that make this location so unique.Since the change of ownership in the summer of 2007, the park has undergone intensive investment including huge upgrading of services and landscaping. The new owners are completely transforming the entire site in order to make it the number one park home destination in the area.] Nearby towns and villages include Kilgetty and Amroth.
Information signs at Stepaside state that legend says that Stepaside gots its name when Oliver Cromwell and his army passed through on their way to Pembroke. Oliver Cromwell is reported to have asked people in his way to step aside, hence the name.
The Craft Village closed several years ago and is now largely overgrown along with the Rabbit café and the Animal and Bird Park.
The Old Dramway runs from Stepaside (Starting at the Heritage Park) to Wisemans Bridge beach and pub. The Dramway is a man-made fine gravel pathway which is flat. The pathway is suitable for bicycles, pushchairs, disabled scooters and walkers of all levels and is a bridalway. This is a popular shortcut for holiday makers and locals to the beach, Wiseman's Bridge pub, Coppet Hall and Saundersfoot Harbour. The Dramway is 2 1⁄2 miles (4.0 km) long from Stepaside to Saundersfoot Harbour and during the holiday season many walkers and cyclists can be seen using this path which meets Route 4 cycle route at Wisemans Bridge.[2]
Stepaside is a holiday hamlet with nearest Supermarket, Cashpoint, Launderette, various shops, School, Library, Community Centre being one mile away in a village called Kilgetty. Properties in Stepaside range from Old Stone Cottages, new build contemporary houses, bungalows, and converted buildings such as The Old School which is now residential and a block of apartments called Cromwell Court (after Oliver Cromwell) formerly a Kawasaki garage and before that a petrol station/Fiat Garage. The Old Coach Works at Stepaside is still in use and is a bodyshop and garage.
