Stellar (Korean: 스텔라, stylized as STELLAR) is a South Korean girl group that debuted in 2011 under Top Class Entertainment. The group received attention prior to debuting for being produced by Shinhwa member Eric.[1] After the release of their debut single, "Rocket Girl", Lee Seul and JoA left the group and were replaced by Hyoeun and Minhee.
Career
Stellar officially debuted on August 28, 2011, with the release of the digital single "Rocket Girl". On January 26, 2012, it was announced that Lee Seul and JoA would be leaving the group, and would be replaced by Minhee and Hyoeun, for their first comeback track, "UFO".[2] On July 11, 2013, Stellar released their third digital single "Study".[3]
On February 12, 2014, Stellar released their first extended play, Marionette.[4] The group received criticism for their 'stripping game' promotional material, which involved fans having to 'like' posts on Stellar's official Facebook page in order to reveal photos of the members' body parts.[5] The group received further criticism for their '19+' music video and performances for Marionette.[6] Despite the controversy, "Marionette" became their best selling single, peaking at 35 on Gaon and 34 on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100 chart. On August 21, 2014, Stellar released the digital single "Mask".
On March 6, 2015, Stellar announced that they would comeback with the digital single "Fool". [7] The next day, they announced that "Fool" is a jazz and hip hop song produced by Sweetune. [8] On March 9, the group released a teaser for the song's upcoming music video. The clip featured Stellar members reacting to cruel online comments about past comebacks. [9]
