Statesville Christian School
Statesville Christian School in Statesville, North Carolina is a nondenominational Christian K–12 school for students in the greater Statesville area.
History
The school was founded on December 30, 1994 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization governed by a ten member Board of Trustees. The school opened in the fall of 1995 with 61 students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade. Today the school enrolls over 230 students in grades Kindergarten through the twelfth grade.[1]
The first senior class graduated in May 2003 with an average SAT score of 1224 and half of the graduates were named AP Scholars by the College Board. Students have gained admission to colleges including Texas Christian University.[2]
In 1999 the school purchased a modular classroom to create a science lab for middle and high school students. In January 2002, SCS purchased the building and property of Northview Church and later completed the construction of a regulation soccer field and a 22,500-square-foot (2,090 m2) athletic/academic center that provides a gymnasium, weight and fitness room, team dressing and shower facilities and specialized academic and arts classrooms including two science labs, three classrooms and a band/music room. This facility also includes a concession stand, teacher workroom and storage space. After the purchase, the modular classroom became the "Art Barn," housing a pottery wheel and kiln. The school also purchased the Sam and Mary Gaither property, 12 acres (49,000 m2) located just to the east of Western Avenue Baptist Church on the northeast corner of Radio Road and Gaither Road. This property is planned as the site of additional athletic fields as well as a separate high school facility when enrollment warrants. The property adjoins undeveloped land owned by the City of Statesville and includes a small stream and large pond which is utilized by the school for supplemental science instruction.
In 2007, all Upper School classrooms were equipped with a SmartBoard and a mobile Macintosh lab obtained as the High School computer lab. Another was later installed in the Elementary School Library for the teachers to share in 2010. Middle school students returned to the 2011 school year to a Windows MultiPoint Server that replaced the computer lab of 20 stand-alone systems. In 2012, iPads were purchased for the upper Elementary school level students and a SmartBoard installed in the Elementary Science Lab.
