Stasis (medicine)

In medicine, stasis is the state in which the normal flow of a body liquid stops,[1] for example the flow of blood through vessels or of intestinal contents through the digestive tract.

Gastric stasis refers to the retention of fluid in the stomach. It is a side effect of some drugs, such as opioids, and can cause nausea and emesis (vomiting). It is also commonly associated with migraine headaches.
