Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness (スターオーシャン5 Integrity and Faithlessness Sutā Ōshan Faibu Integuriti ando Feisuresunisu) is an action role-playing video game developed by tri-Ace and published by Square Enix. It is in development for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4.[1] It is the fifth game in the main Star Ocean series, after the 2009 Star Ocean: The Last Hope, and the ninth released game in the franchise, after the 2013 spinoff free-to-play card game Star Ocean: Material Trader.

Gameplay

The battle system is similar to other games in the Star Ocean series, with the player controlling a character in one-on-one battles, with the ability to switch control of characters. Boss battles will feature the entire party facing off against a boss.[1]

Setting

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness takes place between Star Ocean: The Second Story and Star Ocean: Till the End of Time,[2] the second and third games in the main Star Ocean series. It is set on the planet Feycreed, 6000 light years from Earth.[3]

Announced characters are Fedel Camus, voiced by Kaito Ishikawa, who is the protagonist of the game and a fencer who protects his home village; Miki Sorvesta, voiced by Nao Toyama, who is the heroine of the game, Fedel's childhood friend, and who looks up to Fedel like an older brother; and Lilia, an emotionless and amnesiac girl.[1]

Development

Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness was first announced to be under development on April 14, 2015, in an issue of Famitsu. The developer was announced as tri-Ace, who has developed several other titles in the series, and the publisher as Square Enix. The game is being produced by Shuichi Kobayashi, directed by Hiroshi Ogawa, and the characters are being designed by Akira Yasuda. Kobayashi stated in an interview that he "wanted the game to overtly take cues from Star Ocean 3 and draw its essence from that game". The logo is also intended to be reminiscent of the logo for Star Ocean 3 (Star Ocean: Till the End of Time), and the project as a whole is meant to reassure fans that the developers are still committed to the series. The game is being developed primarily for the PlayStation 3, with the PlayStation 4 version as a port.[1]
