Stag is a 1997 American thriller film, directed by Gavin Wilding, made for HBO and later released theatrically after drawing large ratings. Stag features an ensemble cast including Ben Gazzara, Andrew McCarthy, Taylor Dayne, Mario Van Peebles, Lawrence Leritz, William McNamara, John Henson, Kevin Dillon, and Jerry Stiller. Produced by Lions Gate Entertainment.

Plot

At a bachelor party, a group of men accidentally cause the deaths of a stripper and her bodyguard. Fearing the repercussions of their actions, they then kidnap the remaining stripper and debate what to do with her.

Reception

Brendan Kelly of Variety called it "an efficient psychological thriller" that "becomes a tad predictable".[1] Nathan Rabin of The A.V. Club called it "stagey, badly written, and mind-numbingly predictable".[2] TV Guide rated it 2/4 stars and called it "a sometimes gripping, sometimes frustrating suspense drama".[3] Kevin Thomas of the Los Angeles Times called it "relentlessly obvious and tedious".[4]

It has been compared to the 1998 film Very Bad Things.[5]
