Stacey Reile

Stacey "stayLo" Reile has established herself as one of the top female featherweight boxers in the world. Reile was born in Utica, New York, and lived there during her childhood. Reile later moved to South Florida and currently resides in Miami Beach, Florida.

Early career

Upon moving to South Florida, Reile developed her fitness and won second place at the Miss Fitness South Florida competition in 1999. Reile also began training for boxing in the late 1990s under the tutelage of trainer Luis Lagerman and WIBA President Ryan Wissow. Reile had only two scheduled amateur matches. The first was to take place in the 126 pound division at the Florida State Golden Gloves tournament in 2000. Reile's opponent did not show up, so Reile won by a walkover. Reile also won her second amateur bout by defeating Vanessa Ramos. Although this was Reile's last fight as an amateur, Reile decided to delay becoming a pro boxer and instead honed her craft in the gym for the next four years.

Start of pro career

Just a few days before her pro debut in 2004, Reile travelled to American Top Team in Coconut Creek, Florida, to spar with Shelby Walker. At the time of the sparring session, Walker was a veteran of 11 pro boxing fights and challenged for a world featherweight title about two months before. Walker is best known for scoring the fastest knockout in women's MMA history with her victory over Angela Wilson in just five seconds. Stacey Reile made her professional debut against Myriam Bazile in Boynton Beach, Florida, on July 24, 2004. Reile won by TKO after a bombardment of left jabs and straight rights to the head. The referee waved off the bout at 1:07 of the second round when Bazile stopped throwing and was just trying to block the punches from Reile. Reile began her pro career at 1-0, 1 KO, whereas Bazile fell to 0-5, 0 KO.

Reile participated in two unsanctioned bouts in Tokyo, Japan. The first of these was on March 13, 2005, against Riyo Togo in which Reile won by a four-round unanimous decision. Togo suffered her first loss as a pro in this bout. Reile controlled most of the action by keeping Togo at bay with an effective left jab, and her good right hands took their toll. Reile improved her record to 2-0, 1 KO, whereas Togo fell to 3-1, 3 KOs. After this fight, Reile made an appearance on The Learning Channel's Miami Ink, a reality television show about a tattoo shop in Miami Beach. Reile decided to get angel wing tattoos on her hips and became known as "The Fighting Angel".

For her second unsanctioned bout, Reile returned to Tokyo to face MMA fighter–boxer Ariya. Reile won by a four-round unanimous decision on October 1, 2005. Ariya relentlessly pursued, but Reile thwarted the pressure with rapid combinations and a laser-like left jab to the head and body. Reile improved her record to 3-0, 1 KO, whereas Ariya fell to 2-3, 0 KO.

Reile won by knockout at 37 seconds of the first round against Yessenia de Jesus on February 10, 2006, in Coral Gables, Florida. This was a spectacular one-punch knockout by a lethal left hook. Reile improved her record to 4-0, 2 KOs, whereas de Jesus, who was making her pro debut, began her career at 0-1, 0 KO.

Reile faced national amateur champion Nora Reyes of Chicago on April 21, 2006. The fight took place in Reyes' home state of Illinois. In an action-packed, four-round fight, Reile won by majority decision. Reile improved her record to 5-0, 2 KOs, whereas Reyes fell to 1-1, 0 KO.

Reile faced her first toughest test when she fought Lakeysha "The Total Package" Williams on June 29, 2006 in Miami, Florida. Wearing an outfit inspired by the superhero Supergirl, Reile won by TKO, passing this test with flying colors. Near the end of the third round, Reile hurt Williams with a straight right and left hook to the head combination as Williams was standing in a corner of the ring. Williams could only cover up to defend as Reile landed several punches with referee Jorge Alonso closely observing. Alonso stepped in between the two boxers and waved off the fight just before the bell rang to end the round. The official time of stoppage was 2:59 of the third round. Reile improved her record to 6-0, 3 KOs, whereas Williams fell to 9-9-3, 1 KO. Even though Williams' record appears to be mediocre, she had gone the distance against contenders such as Elena Reid, Ada Vélez, Jeri Sitzes, and Kelsey Jeffries prior to her bout against Reile.

Reile won by a six-round unanimous decision against WIBA FedeLatina super bantamweight champion Delia Hoppe of the Dominican Republic on December 14, 2006, in Hallandale Beach, Florida. Reile improved her record to 7-0, 3 KOs, whereas Hoppe fell to 4-3-1, 1 KO.

Reile faced another opponent from the Dominican Republic in her next bout against Maribel Santana, who had challenged for world titles three times before. Reile defeated Santana by a six-round unanimous decision on January 23, 2008. The fight took place in Reile's home city of Miami Beach, Florida. Reile improved her record to 8-0, 3 KOs, whereas Santana fell to 8-5-1, 3 KOs.

Featherweight division

Reile fought for the world featherweight championship against WBC and WIBF featherweight champion Ina Menzer of Germany on May 31, 2008.^[1] The fight was in Menzer's home country of Germany. After campaigning as a super bantamweight for most of her career, Reile moved to the featherweight division for her bout against Menzer. Reile needed a letter of invitation from the German promotion company Universum which was hosting the boxing event in order for her trainer Jorge Rubio to go to Germany. Rubio was required to obtain this letter in order for him to receive a visa to enter Germany, because he was a Cuban citizen. In spite of Reile sending the promotion company all of the information that they requested, they neglected to send this letter to Rubio. The company is owned by Menzer's manager. As a result of their failure to send the invitation letter, Reile had to hire another trainer two weeks before the fight.^[1]

During the first three rounds, Reile appeared to be winning the fight against Menzer with her hooks to the head and body. However, Menzer hit Reile on her left ear after the bell rang to end the third round. This ruptured Reile's eardrum and affected her equilibrium. With Reile's equilibrium off, Menzer was able to knock Reile down in the fourth round. Reile immediately got up, but her substitute trainer Mark Vaz unexpectedly waved his arms, which forced the referee to stop the fight. Therefore, the bout was officially ruled a win for Menzer by TKO, even though Reile was standing at the time of the stoppage which was 1:39 of the fourth round. Menzer improved her record to 21-0, 9 KOs. Reile's record was 8-1, 3 KOs, after this bout.

Reile fought in the home state of another undefeated opponent when she faced Crystal "Choo Choo" Delgado of Houston, Texas, on March 26, 2009.^[2] The fight occurred in Humble, Texas, which is near Houston. The bout was fought at a catch weight of 128 pounds, which is in the middle of the featherweight limit of 126 pounds and the super featherweight limit of 130 pounds. (Delgado fought the majority of her career in the super featherweight division Delgado constantly came towards Reile, but Reile was outworking Delgado with rapid combinations as the southpaw Delgado was coming in. Reile knocked Delgado down in the sixth round with a combination: straight right to the body followed by a left hook to the head. Delgado rose before the count of ten, but the referee decided that Delgado could not continue and waved off the fight. The time of stoppage was 23 seconds of the sixth round, and Reile won by TKO. Reile improved her record to 9-1, 4 KOs, whereas Delgado received her first loss as a pro and fell to 8-1, 1 KO. Reile was a guest on the Dr. Goodnight blog talk radio show of Stacy Goodson after this bout.^[2]

Stacey Reile won the IBF female featherweight world title on April 1, 2011. Becoming the first female IBF featherweight world champion in history. Stacey became champion of the world on the one-year anniversary of her mother, Barbara Ann Reiles, passing April 1, 2010.

Summary

Reile has worked with world-renowned trainers throughout her career such as John David Jackson, Carlos Gamboa, Orlando Cuellar, Eric Castanos, and Jorge Rubio. Reile is ranked in the top ten by the vast majority of the sanctioning bodies for female boxing and has a high ranking on the computerized rankings of BoxRec.com. With punching power in both hands and tremendous athletic ability, the ambidextrous Reile is one of the most avoided boxers in female boxing. In spite of this, Reile has fought an average of two times a year since her pro debut in 2004. Reile is primarily employed as a licensed massage therapist and certified personal trainer. Some of her clients have been celebrities such as Calvin Klein, Queen Latifah, Russell Simmons, and Al Roker. She has worked in the affluent areas of South Pointe and Star Island in Miami Beach, Florida. Reile has also done modeling and was photographed and interviewed for the September 2009 issue of Nine5Four Magazine.^[3] Reile has since Been on reality tv numerous times On shows such as "south Beach tow" "Miami Ink " "el show De Fernando " Etc
