St Michael and All Angels Church, Barnes
St Michael and All Angels Church is a Grade II listed[1] Church of England church in Barnes in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is located at 39 Elm Bank Gardens, London SW13 0NX.
Established as a separate parish in 1919, St Michael’s is now part of the Barnes Team Ministry.[2]
History
The congregation dates from 1867 when a building, operating as a school on weekdays and as a church on Sundays in the summer, was erected in Archway Street.[2] From 1878, when a temporary "iron church" was erected next to the school, services were held throughout the year.[2]
The current building was erected in 1891–3. The architect was Charles Innes,[3] a member of the congregation,[2] who also designed the additions to the nave, chancel and north aisle of St Mary's Church, Barnes.[4]
A vestry, in a matching style, was added in 1936.[1]
