St Joseph's Primary School is a co-educational, Catholic primary school located in Nambour, Queensland, Australia.

Established in 1925 by the Sisters of the Good Samaritan, St Joseph's is one of the oldest schools in the region.[1] Originally known as St Joseph's Convent School, it was founded to provide a Catholic education for parishioners of St Joseph's Catholic church in Nambour and those in surrounding areas. Staffed entirely by nuns, it was originally a boarding school as well as a day school. Because transport was not readily available in the 1920s, many children boarded at the convent.[2] The original school motto was "Virtus Sola Nobilitat", a Latin phrase meaning 'Virtue Alone Enobles'. In the early 1990s this was changed to "Education With Virue". This also involved a slight change to the change of the school badge.[2]

School Site

The site for St Joseph's Primary School is adjacent to St Joseph's Catholic Church in Currie Street, Nambour. The original school building was a timber structure. Over many years as student numbers increased, modifications were made to the building, as well as several new buildings being constructed. In the 1970s the original timber building's exterior was bricked in.[2] In the 1980s a large undercover area was built, adjacent to the main school building. During the 1990s, the Convent building underwent major refurbishment, after the last of the Good Samaritan Sisters vacated St Joseph's Parish, with careful attention given to preserving its historical heritage. New Pre-School buildings were also constructed on what was the first playground.[2] Between 2010-2012, a significant redevelopment of the St Joseph's Primary School site was undertaken, with the removal of the original school building. It has been replaced by a series of modern buildings, offering a completely new layout of the site.[1]
