St John the Baptist's Church was built probably in the 1180s and is mentioned in 1189.[1] It was founded by the Knights of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem 800 years ago and originally built as a fortress. It was largely rebuilt in the 15th or early 16th centuries, although it retains some of the original building. It was restored extensively in 1860-61 and a meeting room and vestry were added in 1993.[1] The church has a large west tower, a nave with south porch and chancel. The west face has an ornate doorway, with a large perpendicular window above. Some original wall paintings remain including a bust of the patron saint.[1] A well is located 130m to the south of the church.
