St. Xavier's College of Education, Patna (often abbreviated: SXCE Patna or SXCE) is a co-educational self-financed, Catholic minority institution in Patna, Bihar, India.[2] Founded in 1988 by the Patna Province of the Society of Jesus, it is named after St. Francis Xavier, a Spanish Jesuit saint of the 16th century, who travelled to India.
History
The Jesuits first came to Patna in 1919, and in early 1930 was approached to set up a school in the city of Patna.[3] Fr. Loesch was to be assisted in this task by Fr. Marshall D. Moran. Fr. Loesch decided to open a Cambridge school to provide service to the people of Patna and Bihar. St. Xavier's High School, Patna was built in 1940 at Gandhi Maidan Marg. This marked the beginning of Jesuits in Patna. St. Xavier’s College of Education, Patna was founded in November 1988, by the members of Society of Jesus.
Overview
The college is affiliated to Aryabhatta Knowledge University.[4] St. Xavier’s College of Education is approved by National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). The college is also accredited with "A" Grade National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). [5]
Academics
The college offers one year undergraduate and postgraduate programmes for Bachelor of Education[6] and Master of Education respectively,[7][8] from Aryabhatta Knowledge University.[9]
Facilities
The campus is covered in an area about 10117.5 sq.m., situated at Digha in Patna.[10] The main building which houses the office and the classrooms completed in 1990. In the 2010, the main building was extended. The colleges' main facility includes laboratories for Physical Science, Language, Psychology, Education, Technology and Biology, multipurpose hall's & other spacious classrooms and a library, has a collection of over 13,000 books. St. Xavier maintains 2 computer labs. The college also provides boarding facilities for its students. It has also facilities for Gymnasium, Athletics, Indoor/Outdoor games etc. The main campus also has a canteen.[11]
Alumni
The college has an alumni association, known as St. Xavier's College of Education Alumni Association (SXCEAA), which began in year 2003. Since then it has been quite active and has conducted many activities. The present president of the association is Marie Ann D’Cruz.[12]
