St. Xavier’s School, Hazaribagh is a Jesuit school in Hazaribagh, Jharkhand, India. It is considered to be one of the best schools in eastern India. It was established in 1952 by an Australian Jesuit missionary, Rev Fr. John Moore. He was then 32 years old and later went on to win the National Teachers Award. In its initial years, the school was linked to Loyola School, Jamshedpur. The first batch of pupils sat for the University of Cambridge (UK) Overseas School Certificate examination at Hazaribagh in 1955. The school was a boys only school until 1995, then it became co-educational. Present principal of the school is Fr. P. J. James, S.J. Currently the school is affiliated to the CBSE school board and since 1997 has been preparing students for both Xth and XIIth school board examinations.

Layout

The school has a sprawling campus of 33 acres (130,000 m2) with lush green grounds and parks. The built up area is divided into Blocks -Junior School, Middle school and Senior school. The Balmoral field is the football ground that hosts the Fr. John Moore competition.

HOXA

The Hazaribagh Old Xaverians Association (HOXA) is the official alumni organization for the school. HOXA celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2008 at Hazaribag, Calcutta, Delhi, Chennai and Pune. The school celebrated the Diamond Jubilee(60 years) of its founding on Jan 26-28th, 2012. Celebrations included a grand hoxa reunion. Alumni set up a new website to commemorate the diamond jubilee at: http://www.hoxa.org . This website has a classwise listing of 7000+ alumni that have appeared for the school boards since 1955. In addition the website has thousands of photos in multiple albums,including those related to HOXA Reunions. The website also has a collection of old and current school magazines and newsletters as well as audio and video material related to the school. Of note, the website has video of an excellent documentary documenting the history of the school. The website currently has 1650+ active members including current and past teachers and has a message center that allows Hoxans to interact with each other. The last Hoxa reunion was held in Dec 2013. The next HOXA reunion will be on Dec 19-21, 2014 and will coincide with the Annual Sports Day. The Golden Jubilee of the 1964 batch, the Ruby (40th) Jubilee of the 1974 batch, as well as the Silver Jubilee of the 1989 batch will be celebrated at this reunion.

More About Xaviers

The John Moore Soccer competition is hosted in the Balmoral field of the School every year. Teams from all across Jharkhand assemble together to play.

The Art and Science exhibition is hosted biennially under the title "Parwaz: The Flight of Creativity". Students from 3rd class onwards display their knowledge in science projects and display idols/sculptures carved out of wood as part of the art section. Those interested in Science display their talent by making various models in various fields of science.
