History
In the spring of 1955, Bishop Charles Buddy commissioned Father James McGinley to form a new parish in the growing south bay area of San Diego County. The first Mass was celebrated on Ash Wednesday of that year in a rented house. Father McGinley dedicated the new church to St. Pius X, and adopted words from his coat of arms for the motto of the parish: "To restore all things in Christ" (Omnia in Christo). The first Mass in the new church building was celebrated on Thanksgiving Day, 1955. The rectory, which also housed the church office, and the parish hall were completed in 1957. The parish school and the convent followed in 1961. Father McGinley brought Sisters of St. Clare from Ireland to teach the children. Father McGinley instituted the parish council and started the parish picnic, an annual event that continues today. The school celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011.[1]
School song
- "St. Pius Patriots that's who we are.
- Standing proud and reaching high with God in our hearts.
- Standing proud and reaching high with God in our hearts.
- Oh, St. Pius, great St. Pius, you really teach us well.
- Month by month we learn and listen to values that are Christian.
- St. Pius Patriots, that's who we are.
- Standing proud and reaching high with God in our hearts.
- Standing proud and reaching high with God in our hearts.
- We'll grow in faith with white and blue and be respectful, too.
- As we serve God and others who have less than we all do.
- St. Pius Patriots, that's who we are.
- Standing proud and reaching high with God in our hearts."
