St. Paul's Missionary College

St. Paul's Missionary College is the name of educational institutions in Malta and Australia.

Malta

St. Paul's Missionary College (abbreviated to SPMC) is a junior school and secondary school situated on Emanuele Vitale Street in Rabat, Malta (35°52′53″N 14°23′45″E / 35.8815°N 14.3959°E), founded by Joseph De Piro.

History

The college received its first intake in October 1964, in what was then the library of the motherhouse that the Missionary Society of St Paul has in Rabat. The college was the brainchild of Fr. Stanley Tomlin MSSP. The college was founded as a non-fee paying school. In its first years, both the academic and support staff were all MSSP members. Work on the present premises of the school started in 1974 and was completed in 1982 with the inauguration of St Agatha’s Auditorium. It was completed when the college was the only non-fee-paying private school in Malta, and MSSP members had no fixed income. Over the years, there have been developments in the school curriculum, particularly in science, information technology, and modern languages (French and German).

The junior school received its first intake in October 2011, after construction works were done on the former Depiro Youth Centre building.

Australia

St. Paul's Missionary College, located on Norton's Lane, Wantirna South, in Melbourne, Australia (37°53′00″S 145°11′56″E / 37.8834°S 145.1988°E), is the formation house of the Missionary Society of St Paul in Australia. This venue is also used as a retreat site and spirituality centre. Fr Augustine Grech was the first missionary to arrive in Australia in 1948.
