St. Anne's Academy (Dunville)

St. Anne's Academy opened in 1979 as a 1st to 11th Grade school, that bussed students from Freshwater (when their school closed down), Ship Harbour, Fox Harbour, and Dunville, NL, Placentia, Point Verde, Southeast, and is part of the Eastern Avalon School District. It is now a kindergarten to Sixth Grade School. Over the years the school has had many basketball teams, soccer teams, yearbook clubs, and tech clubs.[1]

School services

St. Anne’s Academy has a total of 19 full-time and three part-time educational staff, which include 10 homeroom teachers, three Special Services personnel, 5 specialist teachers in the areas of music/technology, physical education, French, resource and a part-time guidance counsellor, as well as the support of two student assistants. In addition, supports are provided from School Board office staff including Speech Pathology, Specialists for the visually and hearing impaired and Education Psychologists. St. Anne's Academy has a computer lab, gym, Music Room, Reading Room, office and many classrooms.[2]

New school

St. Anne's changed to a kindergarten to 6th Grade school in September 2010, as a New Laval High School in Placentia opened, that houses 7th to 12th Graders from Placentia, Dunville, Ship Harbour, Fox Harbour, Freshwater, Southeast, and Point Verde. St. Anne's now are housing students from kindergarten to 6th Graders from Ship Harbour, Fox Harbour, Dunville, Freshwater, Placentia, Southeast, and Point Verde. The St. Edwards School in Placentia that closed down, it used to house students from kindergarten to 8th Graders from Placentia, Southeast, and Point Verde.
