The college was opened in 1996 at a temporary location in Thoraipakkam in the suburbs of Chennai, Tamil Nadu as an affiliate of Anna University. It later moved to a 1 square kilometre campus at Kalavakkam (Thiruporur Panchayat) on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (Old Mahabalipuram Road) in 1998.

Admissions

Admissions into all courses are done by following the rules and regulations that exist during that year. A certain percentage of seats go into the Anna University Single Window System and the remaining seats are included in the management quota. The percentage may vary each year.SSN gives out applications for the management quota seats in June(after the XII results are announced) and based on their cut-off marks students are short listed. A test and an interview is conducted for Management Quota seats for Bachelors Courses and candidates are shortlisted solely based on merit and proper consideration of caste based quotas as prescribed by the government. The test and interview take place at SSN college itself. The test consists of aptitude,I.Q Maths and English grammar MCQ questions and is usually for 100 marks in 40 mins. The interview is conducted immediately afterwards for those who have cleared the test. The student accompanied by a parent is interviewed by a two-member faculty team. The SSN administration then ranks the students for the management seats as follows:

Seats for Masters courses are offered on the basis of TANCET scores by AU SWS as well as by management quota following all procedures.Merit students are only given the preference. Admission into SSNSASE is based on a written test, followed by interview and then a final interview by a panel from CMU[3]

Every year the management provides about four Crore rupees worth scholarships for eligible students.[1][4][5] There is a "walkin-walkout" scholarship awarded to top 10 rank holders in high school exams. The successful students' fees are completely waived, including the hostel charges.[1]
