The Springfield Pics are an American junior ice hockey organization playing in Springfield, Massachusetts. They field two Junior and a number of Youth teams.
History
The Junior Falcons Eastern Jr. Hockey League (EJHL) and Empire Jr. Hockey League (EmJHL) teams merged in the summer of 2009 with the Springfield Pics of the Continental Jr. Hockey Association (CHA) and the Bay State Bucs Midget team members of the NEMHL.[1]
USPHL - Premier
With the re-organization of junior hockey in the north eastern United States, the Springfield Pics became founding members of the new United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) for the 2013-2014 hockey season and their Junior A team participated in the Elite League. A second junior team will be placed in the Premier Division for the 2014-15 season. In prior seasons the Pics played in the Eastern Junior Hockey League.
USHPL - Elite
A Junior B team of the same name competes in the Elite League of the USPHL. Prior to the 2013-14 season the Pics had two Junior B teams. The EmJHL team were made up of the more senior players and participated in the Empire Junior B Hockey League. In their first year in the USPHL-Elite League the Pics finished second and then went on to win the playoffs. The playoff win propelled the team to the USA Hockey Junior Nationals where they won their pool before losing the semi final game to the eventual National Champion, Boston Jr. Bruins.
Junior B CHA Team
The second Junior B team competed in the Premier Division of the Continental Hockey Association, and was made up of more junior players. With the re-organization this team was eliminated in favor of an Under 19 and Under 16 team which plays in corresponding USPHL leagues.
