Spinlet is a mobile music download platform bringing media distribution to emerging markets in Africa.[2] Spinet’s technology allows the consumer to purchase, listen, share and discover new music while offering integration and storage of the user’s music library on their mobile device.
History
Spinlet was established in 2006 in Tampere, Finland. It received a significant funding boost in early 2011 from Verod Capital Management Limited to assist in global expansion.[3] Spinlet launched in Nigeria in May 2011 and since then has been increasing its availability across the globe. They now have additional offices in San Francisco, California, Lagos, Nigeria and Cape Town, South Africa.[4]
Availability
The application is available in all countries with free streaming and pay per download offers for its African music catalogue. The application is supported on Android, BlackBerry and Symbian 3 operating systems and is available for free download via the Android Market, Blackberry Store, and Symbian Platform.
Partners
Gracenote and Civolution have teamed with Spinlet to provide a music identification and monitoring platform for Spinlet’s mobile music service in Africa.[5]
Samsung has collaborated with Spinlet on the launch of the new Samsung Galaxy Pocket in Nigeria.[6] The Smartphone with an Android OS 2.3 comes with a pre-installed Spinlet application, 5 pre-installed songs, and Spinlet credits for buying any 5 songs the consumer wants from the Spinlet catalog. The performance of the Samsung S5300 Galaxy Pocket boasts a processor with multi-tasking functionality, Wi-Fi Internet, and access to Spinlet with the touch of a finger.
