Speke Resort and Conference Center is a luxurious hotel-resort-conference-center in Kampala, the capital and largest city in Uganda, the third-largest economy in the East African Community.

Location

The hotel is located in Munyonyo, Makindye Division, in the southeastern part of Kampala, along the northern shores of Lake Victoria, the second-largest freshwater lake in the world. This location lies approximately 13 kilometres (8.1 mi), by road, southeast of Kampala's central business district.[1] The coordinates of Speke Resort and Conference Center are:0°14'15.0"N, 32°37'30.0"E (Latitude:0.2375; Longitude:32.6250).[2] The resort lies adjacent to its sister institution, Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.

Overview

The resort was commissioned in 2007, in time to host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2007 (CHOGM 2007), held from 23 November until 25 November 2007, in Kampala Uganda. In 2012, the resort was valued at about US$150 million.[3]

Amenities

Amenities on-site include an Olympic-size infinity swimming pool, a choice of luxury apartments, cottages, at least five restaurants, bars, and an equestrian center. Accommodation consists of 55 executive rooms, 55 executive suites and four presidential suites. All rooms are en-suite with lake views. Conference facilities can accommodate up to 500 guests. There is a gymnasium on-site. The marina has chauffeured and self-drive watercraft available for hire. Private yachts and boats are also accommodated. Helicopter rides for hire, from the resort's own helipad, are also on offer.[4]
