Kang Ji Hyun (born February 12, 1992; Hangul: 강지현), better known by her stage name Soyou (Hangul: 소유) is a South Korean idol singer and actress. She is best known as a member of the South Korean girl group Sistar under Starship Entertainment.

Biography

Soyou was born on February 12, 1992,[1] in Jeju Island, South Korea. Soyou was a Cube Entertainment trainee before debuting with SISTAR[2] and was originally supposed to debut as a member of 4Minute. Soyou replied that she didn’t make it into the group because she was lacking in many ways. She was originally supposed to be in Sohyun’s place.[3] Instead, Soyou auditioned for Starship Entertainment, singing a cover of Navi's "On The Road",[4] and debuted as a member of SISTAR.

Career

Sistar

In June 2010, Soyou made her debut as a member of Sistar on KBS Music Bank with their debut single, Push Push [5]

Solo career

On August 6, 2010 Soyou with Woo of J2 collaborated for the OST of drama Gloria. On September 17, 2010 Soyou also sang the OST for MBC‘s drama Playful Kiss. The track is titled, "Should I Confess."[6]

On November 1, 2012 Soyou sang a duet with the hip hop duo, Geeks, the song "Officially Missing You, Too" is a remake of Tamia’s song of the same title. The song is part of Geeks’ project album Re;Code Episode 1, released by LOEN Entertainment.[7]

On November 29, 2012 Soyou also released a song as part of Starship Planet 2012 together with K.Will & Boyfriend's Jeongmin called "White Love".[8]

On July 15, 2013 it was revealed that Soyou will appear on MBC's "Star Diving Show Splash" together with Kwon Yuri, Choi Minho and others.[9]

On September 6, 2013 was revealed that Soyou together with Mad Clown would release a duet called "Stupid In Love" on 10 September.[10]

On February 1, 2014 it was revealed that Soyou and JunGiGo would release a duet called "Some".[11]

On January 5, 2015 was revealed that Soyou together with Lee Ha-nui and Kim Jung Min will be the new MC’s of beauty tip program “Get It Beauty” in 2015. The new MCs’ first episode will air on February 4.[12]
