Southington High School is a public high school located at 720 Pleasant Street in Southington, Connecticut.
It is the only high school in Southington.

Academics

Southington High School offers a hierarchical system with classes designed to suit student ability level. These courses are college prep, competitive college prep, and honors-level classes.

Faculty members are responsible for suggesting the most appropriate level of courses to individual students; however, students are allowed to enroll in courses of any difficulty level with the written permission of their parents and an individual meeting with the student's guidance counselor.

Southington High School offers a number of Advanced Placement courses as well as for-credit foreign language courses through the University of Connecticut's Early College Experience program.

Athletics

Southington competes in the West division of the Central Connecticut Conference, which consists of New Britain High School, Simsbury High School, Hall High School, Newington High School, Conard High School, Farmington High School, and Northwest Catholic High School.

The marching band won the state championship in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2014.

The football team won the state LL Championship in 1998, 2013, and 2014.

School news

The Emblem is Southington High School's student newspaper. Six issues are published throughout the year, including a Senior Issue, which contains features such as a "Class Will," "Playing the Game," "Daily Bagging," and "Class Memories." The Emblem's advisor is Joseph Cipollini.

In early 2008, Southington High School's Mass Communication Department started a news program called "The Southington K Factor." Its first show was on March 19, 2008, and it airs Wednesdays at 7:00 PM on Southington's local channel 16.

In 2014 - SOUTHINGTON, Conn. – Parents of Southington High School students are fuming after they contend school officials left out important details in a letter sent home about an allegedly drunken teacher, and failed to call police.

The Southington High School principal sent a letter to parents about an incident at the school Thursday in which a teacher “behaved in an unprofessional manner … and was removed immediately from the classroom,”WTNH reports. But an “insider” at the school told the news station there’s a lot more to the story than school officials are letting on and alleges they’re attempting to sweep the situation under the rug. “They said he was a Spanish teacher who came to school fairly intoxicated to the point where he soiled himself. He wet himself,” the anonymous source said. “The kids were videotaping it and he preceded to pin a student up against the wall. He did make physical contact with a student.” The unidentified Spanish teacher was allegedly intoxicated through first and second periods before he was reportedly hauled out of the classroom in handcuffs by school leaders. WTNH contacted Southington Police and learned the teacher was not arrested and the incident was never reported. The news station followed up with assistant superintendent Karen Smith, who would not identify the teacher, discuss exactly what happened or explain why police were never notified. “If a teacher is being escorted out the school and my child is in that classroom or school I definitely want to know that,” a parent said. “You know, it’s disturbing because you don’t know what the teacher did, you don’t know if the teacher could harm the kids.” Smith also would not discuss possible discipline for the allegedly drunken teacher, but assured the news station that all protocols were followed for dealing with an intoxicated person on school property. “Oh absolutely, we have board protocols and procedures that are always followed 100-percent, whether it be staff members, students, or even community members, we have a very strict policy that is always followed,” she said. Apparently contacting police isn’t part of the protocol. Many who posted on the WTNH story believed school officials should have taken the situation more seriously and pressed for criminal charges. PCB scare

In September of the 2000-2001 school year, the motor that runs the school's clocks exploded in the basement of Southington High School. Students were kept out of the building for days as everything was tested for cancerous PCBs.
