The southern nightingale-wren (Microcerculus marginatus), also known as the scaly-breasted wren, is a species of bird in the Troglodytidae family. Its rich song varies locally over its range, suggesting that more than one species is included in the taxonomic complex currently called the southern nightingale-wren.

It is found in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. Its natural habitat is moist subtropical or tropical lowland forests.
