Southern Union Company
Southern Union Company , a subsidiary of ETP Holdco. ETP Holdco is owned 60% by Energy Transfer Equity and 40% by Energy Transfer Partners and controlled through a majority board membership by ETP. ETP Holdco owns a 100% equity interest in Southern Union Company. ETP Holdco is engaged primarily in the transportation, storage, gathering, processing and distribution of natural gas. Headquartered in Houston, Southern Union is one of the nation’s leading diversified natural gas companies. The company owns and operates one of the nation’s largest natural gas pipeline systems with more than 20,000 miles of gathering and transportation pipelines and one of North America’s largest liquefied natural gas import terminals.
Southern Union’s interstate pipeline interests operate more than 15,000 miles of pipelines that transport natural gas from the major producing areas to major markets in the Southeast, Midwest and Great Lakes region. Southern Union’s natural gas transmission units include Panhandle Eastern Pipe Line Company, Trunkline Gas Company, Sea Robin Pipeline Company, Trunkline LNG Company (one of the nation’s largest LNG import terminals) and Southwest Gas Storage. Through CCE Holdings, LLC, Southern Union also owns an interest in and operates Florida Gas Transmission.
Southern Union Gas Services, with approximately 5,500 miles of pipelines, is engaged in the gathering, transmission, treating, processing and redelivery of natural gas and natural gas liquids in Texas and New Mexico.
Southern Union was founded in 1929 by Clint Murchison, Sr. as a pipeline and utility company. The Arizona operations were sold to Citizens Utilities in 1991.[1] In 2003, the Texas utility operations were sold to ONEOK.[2] Missouri Gas Energy was sold by Southern Union Company to The Laclede Group, Inc. on September 1, 2013.
