South Tahoe High School (STHS) is a public secondary school in South Lake Tahoe, California that is part of Lake Tahoe Unified School District. The school mascot is the Viking, and the school's colors are blue and gold.

South Tahoe High School has an average attendance of 1,000 students (as of the 2013-2014 school year) and features an open-air campus. In 2004, the school underwent a massive renovation which featured the installation of heated sidewalks and a renovation of the offices. Shortly thereafter, an extensive multi-year (completed 2013) set of renovations and new construction projects transformed the school's facilities. Recently, South Tahoe High School was honored as a "top 1000" secondary school in the United States by Newsweek Magazine. [3] [4] In June 2007, the school had to be surrounded by firefighters to avoid being burned down in the devastating Angora Fire.

Athletics

Due to its proximity to Nevada, South Tahoe's athletic teams have competed as a member of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association since the 1970s along with four other similarly-isolated California schools nearby. The Vikings compete in the 1A level of the Northern Nevada region of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association. South Tahoe has had success in boys' soccer and boys' cross country recently. The boys' soccer team has won two state championships (2003 and 2005)in 2003 the team finished ranked 19th in the nation and won its third straight Region title. In 2010, 2011, and 2012 the boys varsity cross country team were regional champions, and in 2010 and 2011 won the state title, finishing third in 2012. The boys tennis team has reached the regional semi-finals in three consecutive years.
