Soulless (Russian: Духless) is a Russian film based on the novel Soulless. Tale of an unreal man by Sergey Minaev. It was selected as the opening film of the 34th Moscow International Film Festival (2012).[1]

First, the movie was scheduled to be released in Autumn 2011 but was released on June 21, 2012] during 34th Moscow International Film Festival as Opening Movie. The film was screened on theaters on October 4, 2012]. The sequel was released on March 5, 2015.

Danila Kozlovsky, who played the main role, broke his hand during filming. Despite this, he continued filming, including difficult parts like night club scenes, dances and intimate scenes. He did such an impeccable job, people who watched the film didn't realize it.[2][3]

Plot

This is a story of 29-year-old top manager named Max Andreev (Danila Kozlovsky) who is absolutely sure about his success and happiness. Everything he does is earning and spending money. Expensive cars, penthouse, night clubs, posh girls, parties and drugs are attributes of his life.

But one day he meets a girl naned Yulia who is from another side of the life. And he starts to understand that there is something wrong in his way of living. From this point everything around and inside him starts to change.

The film "Soulless" earned during hire in the territory of Russia and the CIS $13 364 412. At cinemas it was seen by nearly 2 million viewers. Interest to the film remained throughout almost all weekends.

Sequel

Soulless 2 was premiered on March 5, 2015 and became one of the most successful Russian films of 2015. Danila Kozlovsky and the most of the main cast from previous film return to reprise their roles.

The movie is a continuation of the story of 30-year-old millionaire Max Andreev (Danila Kozlovsky), who decided to start life with a clean slate. Abandoning a lot of money, expensive cars, luxury apartments in the center of Moscow and the high life, Max moves on the Indonesian island of Bali. His life in a tropical paradise on the ocean is like idyll, but once it comes to an old friend, and everything changes - Max is arrested on suspicion of drug possession and deported to his homeland. He is immersed in the life of the capital, where he was again waiting for shady deals, the risk of fatal and meeting with a former love.

The cast including Danila Kozlovsky, Maria Andreeva, Dominique Pinon, Vladimir Simonov, Sergei Burunov, Pavel Vorojtsov and Miloš Biković.

The filmings were held in Moscow and Bali island in Indonesia. Full budget was 4 Million US Dollars.
