Soul Track Mind is an American band from Austin, Texas with a sound that blends soul, r&b, rock, funk, blues, and jazz.[1][2] The band has been cited, along with acts such as Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings and Mayer Hawthorne, as influential in the contemporary reemergence and retooling of the soul music genre.[3][4]
The group currently consists of band founder Donovan Kieth (lead vocals), Jonathon Zemek (guitar), Andrew Nolte (keys), Rudy Eccles (bass), Michael Ingber (drums), Shane Walden (trumpet), and Michael Culbertson (saxophone). It was founded in 2008 by Donovan, who moved to Austin in order to start a band that would play original songs inspired by the soul music he had grown up with. Guitarist Jonathon Zemek was one of the original members of the band's first incarnation. The name Soul Track Mind is a product of a night of soul music binge listening by Donovan and the ensuing comment from a mutual friend that he had a "one-track mind". The band's first residency was at T.C.s lounge, a juke joint in East Austin, where they played regularly on Wednesday nights.
Since then the band has moved on to produce three full albums and has toured nearly 20 U.S. states. They have been featured on the cover of the 2013 summer issue of Texas Music magazine and their latest album, Unbreakable, was rewarded the 2014 Louisiana Music Prize. The band currently works with producer C.J. Eiriksson and is planning to collaborate with "Boo" Mitchel of Royal Studios in spring 2015.
