"Soul" (剑灵中文主题曲 《Find Your Soul》 Find Your Soul) is the first Chinese-language song by South Korean girl group Girls' Generation.[1][2] The song is used as the theme song for commercials for the Korean MMORPG video game, Blade & Soul, in Chinese-language markets across Asia. The arrangement with Girls' Generation and Chinese theme song was launched at the "Blade & Soul – Soul Party" on November 30.[3] The "Find Your Soul" theme for the game was launched in June 2013.[4] The Korean version of the song was released on 4th Korean EP Mr.Mr..[5]

Background and release

On November 30, 2013, Girls’ Generation revealed the original soundtrack for Blade & Soul at a release party held in Shanghai. Girls’ Generation performed the song live at the event and also sat down for an interview, during which they explained that they hope to have more activities in China in the future and that Blade & Soul is a popular game in Korea. A lottery event was also held, where Girls’ Generation chose five numbers, and those holding the numbers received prizes.[6]

The open beta for the Chinese servers of the video game opened on November 28 and Tencent hopes that the recruitment of Girls' Generation will encourage people to become more interested in the game.[6]

The song was recorded in Korean, renamed as Soul and released on EP Mr.Mr. on February 27, 2014.[7]

Lyrics

Chinese version

Most of the song is sung in Chinese beginning with Taeyeon singing:

不用问 不用想 去哪里 就跟著这路的方向
Bùyòng wèn bùyòng xiǎng qù nǎlǐ jiù gēnzhe zhè lù de fāngxiàng
Don't ask, don't think about where you're going, just follow the road in this direction
我给你加满极速力量 记得跟紧我步伐
Wǒ gěi nǐ jiā mǎn jísù lìliàng jìde gēn jǐn wǒ bùfá
I will give you full speed and power, just remember to keep up with my pace

The English phrase "Find Your Soul", which is relative to the English name of the game "Blade & Soul", is inserted into the Chinese lyrics.

Korean version

The lyrics of the Korean version are credited to Red Rocket, Anne Judith Wik, Nermin Harambasic, Ronny Vidar Svendsen, Lukas Nate Nathanson who also wrote the song.[8] The lyrics begin:

"어디로 가냐고 묻지마 이 길이 향하는 그대로, 난 너를 데려가 최대로 속도감을 더해가.."
"Eodilo ganyago mudjima i gil-i hyanghaneun geudaelo, nan neoleul delyeoga choedaelo sogdogam-eul deohaega.."
Don't ask where you're going, just follow this road, I'm taking you the top speed..

As with the Chinese version the English phrases "Get it Get it" "Find your soul" are inserted among the Korean lyrics.

Promotions

The song was first performed on November 30, 2013 in a Blade & Soul party event "Happy Night" at 7PM in Shanghai.[6]
