Sophia A. Nelson (born January 5, 1967) is an American author, political strategist, opinion writer, and attorney. She was born in Munich, Germany and grew up in Somerdale, New Jersey. Graduating from San Diego State University, she was the first African-American woman elected to a major position in the Student Body. She originally wanted to be the first Black female Supreme Court Justice, but decided to pursue her passion as a freelance writer instead. Nelson is an attorney and a member of the Republican Party.

Career

Sophia A. Nelson, Esq. is "redefining" the rules for 21st Century living and success. She writes a national lifestyle & political column for NBC's theGrio.com titled "Living Redefined", and she is a contributor to Essence magazine, Heart & Soul, USA Today and NPR. You can watch Sophia regularly as a noted political pundit & social commentator on MSNBC, CNN, TvOne's Washington Watch with Roland S. Martin and FOX during the 2012 Presidential Campaign. Her second book "Reconnect" is due out in Summer 2013 and it deals with the power of human "connection" and how to focus on what truly matters in our lives in a busy 21st Century world. WATCH Sophia called on as a subject matter expert with ABC World News anchor Diane Sawyer.

She authored the book "Black Woman Redefined: Dispelling Myths and Discovering Fulfillment in the Age of Michelle Obama". She advocates for better representation of black women in the media and society.
