Song So-hee (송소희 , born 20 October 1997) is a singer of traditional Korean gugak;Mihn-Yoh 민요 (民謠).

Career

So-hee began performing gugak at the age of five. She won the National Sijo Contest in 2004, and in 2008, the grand prize on "The National Singing Contest," (a KBS show) in 2008. She specialized in Mihn-Yoh 민요 (民謠) Korean working class folk song since age 5. Her parents did not come from musical background. Her parents worked at restaurants for a living and her dad had to take a second job delivering newspapers early in the morning to fund her singing lessons from age5. She requested her parents to help her get singing lessons. Her parents listened and recognized her singing vocal talent and not the other way around. Song Sohee is once in a lifetime innately miraculous singer born with innate (inner) talent of her own; given no one in her family has musical background. She hopes for a future where there are more Mihn-Yoh 민요 (民謠) based talent shows for all viewers and participants across Korean Peninsula and abroad. Mihn-Yoh 민요 (民謠) is special because lyrics have been passed down for generations from the working class of Korean Peninsula....it is the voice of the PEOPLE.

[1] In 2010, the government chose her as "Best Korean of the Year", a yearly award for someone who has who graced and enriched the nation.

So-hee sang the folk song "Arirang" at the March 10 closing ceremony of the 2014 Sochi Winter Paralympics.

On July 26, 2014 So-hee won first place on the installment of 'Immortal Song 2'.
