Sonequa Martin-Green (born March 21, 1985)[2] is an American actress and producer. She is best known for her television role as Sasha on The Walking Dead.[3] She is also known for her role as Tamara on Once Upon a Time.[4][5][6][7] Prior to this, she had starred in several independent films before gaining her first recurring role as Courtney Wells on The Good Wife.

Martin-Green was born in Russellville, Alabama. She has one full sister and three older half-sisters. She graduated from the University of Alabama in 2007 with a degree in theatre.[1] and moved to New York in the same year. After getting married and living in New York for five years, the couple moved to California soon afterwards.

Career

Martin-Green has had many recurring roles in TV shows, including The Good Wife, NYC 22, and Once Upon a Time. In 2012, she was cast in a recurring role on The Walking Dead as Sasha, the sister of Tyreese (Chad Coleman), an original character, exclusive to the television series.[8] Despite being an original character, she was initially confused with being Julie, Tyreese's daughter from the original source material, or Tyreese's girlfriend, which Martin-Green dismissed. In an interview with AfterBuzz TV, Martin-Green mentioned that between the period of the audition and going onto the set that she read the first three volumes of the comic book series. She was upgraded to a series regular for season 4.[9][10][11][12]

Personal life

Martin-Green is married to Kenric Green. They met while acting in a play together in Princeton, New Jersey. Martin-Green gave birth to a baby boy named Kenric Justin Green II after his father on January 10, 2015 in Los Angeles.
